This edition’s stories contain (another) disturbing story about TikTok, simple travel tips, and an ill-fated attack that appears to have broken 600K home devices instead of compromising them.
Going forward, we will be releasing these as there is enough to report versus on a set timeframe.
General
- Utah sues TikTok for children on TikTok Live – The live stream features allows interaction between the streamer and the viewer. The viewers can also pay the streamers. The suit alleges that TikTok is operating a “virtual strip club where kids may be encouraged by adults to engage in illicit acts on camera in exchange for payments from other users.”
- The Ultimate List of Cyber Attack Stats (2024) – interesting skim with interesting stats such as a cyber attack happens every 39 seconds, $17K per minute is lost to phishing, and we are approaching a billion victims per year.

Data Loss
- 55,000 Impacted by Cyberattack on California School Association – Last year’s ransomware becomes this year’s data breach. SSN’s, drivers license, and other information involved.
- Crooks threaten to leak 3B personal records ‘stolen from background check firm’ – Huge breach. This is being labeled a leak, as it looks as if the data was not protected. Interestingly enough, individuals who opted out were not included in the leak.
Operational Disruption
- Mysterious Threat Actor Used Chalubo Malware to Brick 600,000 Routers – This is a bit weird – the intent was probably to compromise the routers, but the attack ended up ruining them.
- Germany’s Christian Democratic party hit by ‘serious’ cyberattack – not sure if this is ransomware or not – all that has been released is they have taken parts of its IT-infrastructure offline,
- Seattle Public Library remains partly offline since ransomware event
